If the usual caregiver suddenly could not act, would the trusted network know who, where, what and how?
Seven short steps, written before anything goes wrong, so the people around a child do not have to guess. It takes a few minutes, and you can stop and come back.
If a child is in danger now, contact local emergency services. This page is for planning ahead, not for a crisis in progress.
What CAT does and does not do. CAT records intention and continuity. It does not create custody, guardianship, fitness findings, court authority or emergency legal authority.

This browser is not keeping notes between visits, so use the download at the end to keep what you write.
1 Safe people
Who does the child already trust, and who can be reached? Add each person once.
2 Safe places
Where can the child go and be safe? A home, a school office, a neighbor, a relative.
3 Meals and food
Who usually feeds the child, what they eat, any allergies or dietary needs, and what happens if food runs short.
4 Fallback care
Who steps in if the usual caregiver cannot, and what would they need to know or be able to do?
5 Important continuity information
Routines, school, health needs, comfort, anything a new caregiver must know. Do not put passwords or account numbers here.
6 Where the actual authority lives
Name the document that gives anyone legal authority, who holds it and where it is kept: for example a court order, a guardianship or medical-consent document, a school form, an attorney’s file. CAT replaces none of them.
7 Review and update
Review when anything changes, and on a date you choose. Mark it reviewed so the next person can see how current it is.
Not reviewed yet.
Does the network know?
This only checks that the parts are filled in. It cannot tell whether they are true, or whether the people named have agreed.
